UK pensioners residing in France

Brexit with the withdrawal agreement that was signed on January 24, 2020 (effective from January 31, 2020) and during the transition period which runs through December 31, 2020

UK Social Security legislation will apply.

The pensioner’s health care benefits in kind are paid by France, (State of residence) on behalf of the UK scheme.
Any contributions that may be due on old-age pensions paid by the UK scheme are payable in the United Kingdom.

As regards France’s relationship with the United Kingdom from January 1st, 2021, we now know more about the measures that will apply under the withdrawal agreement to Frenchinsured individuals who established ties to the United Kingdom prior to December 31, 2020 : on cutoff dates for forms issued as certificates of applicable legislation for posted or multi-State workers.

Clarifications : The « cotisation subsidiaire maladie » (universal health insurance or « Puma » charge) would potentially be payable by individuals residing in France and drawing a single pension from a State which is not or which has ceased to be a member of the European Union.

Puma :

La protection universelle maladie (Puma) est entrée en vigueur le 1er janvier 2016. A cette date, la CMU de base est supprimée. La protection universelle maladie assure aux personnes qui exercent une activité professionnelle en France ou qui résident en France de façon stable et régulière, la prise en charge à titre personnel des frais de santé en cas de maladie ou de maternité.
